03. Taking Control: Journey To A Baby

Posted: February 8, 2018 by meghan

I am a control freak. Shocking right? Of course I am. Sense the sarcastic tone. I am the type of girl who needs to know things so waiting 3 months for another semen analysis seemed like 300 years. I needed to know what my future had in store. I needed to know how to prepare myself for the future. I felt so utterly out of control and vulnerable along with all of the other emotions that I was dealing with. I usually spend my nights watching Friends on Nick at Night as a means to let go of every ounce of stress in my life which seemed particularly impossible one night. Chandler Bing couldn’t distract me from replaying ‘wait 3 months’ speech in my head. So I did what I typically do to distract my mind and that was get on my phone except for this particular night, I found myself on my google app searching for ways to improve fertility. What I found surprised me and gave me hope.

We all know how important hormonal balance is for men and women. Upon my research, I found that essential oils and one particular conception support might be the answer to my troubling mind.

Essential Oils

Clary Sage: Clary Sage is a miracle in a bottle as it naturally helps regulate hormones naturally. If you recall from my first part of this series, That Gut Feeling, my progesterone hormone was low so it was important to me, in my quest to getting pregnant, that my hormones be more balanced. Clary sage seemed to be the perfect oil for women’s fertility.  Clary Sage is also a libido booster which is very helpful when trying to make a baby. Place a drop of the oil on the heels of your feet every day or you may even diffuse the oil. Clary Sage has a beautiful Earthy, fruity smell.

Lavender: Anyone that tells you that trying to conceive is not stressful is lying however trying to be stress free is vital. I diffused lavender every single night at bed time and any time I felt the tiniest bit of stress coming on. The light, airy smell didn’t chase the stress away, but I did feel a sense of calm when I would breathe in the beautiful smell. Lavender oil was my best friend. By diffusing the oil at night, Derek and I both benefited from it.

Rose Otto: Having a regular menstrual cycle is key to getting pregnant. Rose Otto oil naturally regulates your cycle while relaxing the uterus. My periods were always all over the place ranging from 28 to 33 to even 35 days which meant I never knew when or if I was ovulating. After using Rose Otto mixed with coconut oil (carrier blend), on the back of neck every single day, my cycle began to average 32 days making it easier for me to know when I was ovulating.

Sandalwood Oil: Sandalwood oil is natural aphrodisiac that helps combat low libido (a symptom of low testosterone). Luckily, I was able to get my husband on board with using essential oils and talked him into trying out Sandalwood oil. Derek placed 2 drops of Sandalwood oil underneath his armpits everyday for 3 months. Smelling the oil, which smells amazing, on him naturally made me want to get close to him. Sandalwood oil improves testosterone levels as well as relaxes the body. In mine and Derek’s case, we needed his testosterone production to improve after being taken off of supplements. The synthetic supplements he was taking killed his body’s natural ability to produce testosterone. Once he quit the supplements, his body needed to learn to make testosterone on its own. My hopes with Derek using Sandalwood oil is that would kickstart his testosterone production and time would tell if it did.

Be sure to use only high grade, pure essential oils and buy from seller. I trust oils from DoTerra, Eden Gardens, Young Living and Plant Therapy.

PregPrep Conception Support

If you have never heard of PregPrep, I suggest you get on google.com right now and have your debit card in hand. PregPrep Conception Support is a doctor formulated kit for men and women that are ready to begin their own journey to a baby. PregPrep was developed by two women, a marketing executive and an ob/gyn doctor, who found themselves at a crossroads in their own pregnancy journey and after relentless research, the pair found that pregnancy boiled down to three factors: proper nutrition, a primed uterus, and eliminating free radicals from the body. The pair also discovered that there were very little on the market for women and men on their pregnancy journey so PregPrep was born. After reading all about PregPrep, I realized that it was everywhere from the Dr. Oz show to Good Morning America to Women’s Health magazine. At that point, I didn’t think I had much to lose so I bit the bullet and ordered the Complete Conception + Male FertilePrep. Within 72 hours, I was staring at the package, praying that it would work.essential

The kit comes with 3 different types of pills: 2 being for the woman and the other being for the man. VitaPrep, which is for the woman to take, contains folic acid, Vitamin D, and B12, all which are essential in reducing brain and spinal cord defects as well as supports normal ovulation. You may take VitaPrep along with your prenatal vitamin, once a day, every day. You simply allow VitaPrep to dissolve on your tongue. FertilPrep is the second pill for the woman to take for ten days/twice a day beginning on day 5 of your cycle. FertilPrep’s magical ingredient is NAC, a natural mucolytic that dissolves viscous mucus as well as thins mucus secretions which makes for easier sperm transport and fertilization. NAC, in my opinion, is so magical because it is naturally occurring antioxidant that decreases free radicals from the body which is what you don’t want in your body when you are trying to conceive. For the third pill that comes in your kit, is for the male and is called Male FertilePrep. Male FertilePrep is loaded in vitamins and minerals such as Folate, Zinc, Vitamin C, NAC and more. These vitamins and minerals are so important because they aide with sperm count, shape and motility. Male FertilePrep must be taken twice a day, every day.

I wasn’t sure if any of this would work for Derek and I, but I was determined to try anything. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. I simply couldn’t wait for 3 months because I knew I would drive myself crazy so I distracted myself from worrying all the time to being proactive. I knew I was setting myself up for possible failure, but I couldn’t just settle for being patient and prayer. I wanted a baby so bad that it hurt my heart  thinking I might not be a mother one day. Not only did I use essential oils and PrepPrep everyday, but I also did everything I could to better my lifestyle for a baby. I decreased my caffeine intake, ate a diet of high, lean protein, decreased processed foods and focused on eating complex carbs, as well as exercise. Even if it was a waste of time, I still wanted to prep my body for a baby.
